What are protected folders?
Protected folders are locations within the organization where protected content can be consumed. A file will not be consumable when outside of a designated protected folder. Examples include endpoint common user folders, on-prem network drives, and cloud-based document-sharing services.
Users can add Onedrive/SharePoint folder as a Protected folder under specific user roles. Anchor will automatically assign that folder as a Protected folder for all the users that are added to the user role.
Step 1:
Configure Protected folder for One Drive: The admin can manually add all the paths as Protected folder under the user role.
add short-path as “OneDrive - <OrgId>\<Subfolder>”.
Example: To protect the documents folders on the Onedrive account of organization DAtAnchorInc, the admin would add “OneDrive - DAtAnchorInc\Documents”. Note: there is a space around ‘-’.
On the agent, the path is resolved to “C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive - DAtAnchorInc\<folder1>” or “C:\OneDrive-DAtAnchorInc\<folder1>” or wherever the user created their OneDrive parent folder.
Configure Protected folder for SharePoint:
The admin can manually add all the paths as Protected folder under the user role.
add short-path “SharePoint-<OrgId\ShareFolder\Subfolder>”.
Example: To protect the Share1\Documents folders on the Sharepoint account of Organization DAtAnchorInc, the admin would add “SharePoint-DAtAnchorInc\Share1\Documents\”. Note: there is no spaces around ‘-’ for SharePoint.
Step 2: Admin Right-click and Anchor folder from their workstation: The admin needs to Right-click on the OneDrive/SharePoint folder and
select
"Anchor> Anchor My Data>Add Protection and Anchor My Files". The admin only needs to do this for one time when adding a folder as a Protected folder.
